A long-term visa still allows temporary visits only.
A long-term Standard Visitor visa can be useful for people who have a genuine reason to travel to the UK regularly. The application should explain why repeated temporary visits are expected and how that travel fits with the applicant’s circumstances outside the UK.
Current GOV.UK guidance lists long-term Standard Visitor visas with 2, 5 and 10 year validity. The maximum stay is normally up to 6 months on each visit, and a long-term visa must not be used to make the UK the applicant’s main home through frequent or successive visits.
Documents we may review
Passport and relevant UK or international travel history
Reason for expecting regular UK visits
Employment, business, retirement or other home-country circumstances
Financial evidence and trip-funding approach
Family or business connections where relevant
Evidence supporting the temporary nature of each trip
Start by explaining why you expect to visit the UK repeatedly, how often you expect to travel and what commitments you maintain outside the UK.
Applying for a longer visa does not guarantee the full period requested
The application is assessed on its own facts. The relevant authority can issue a visa for a shorter period than requested if it considers that more appropriate.
