UK business visitor visa guidance

UK Business Visitor Visa Assistance

For meetings, conferences, interviews, trade fairs and other permitted business activities, the application should clearly connect the UK visit with your role, employer or business outside the UK.

Explain the business purpose clearly.

Business travel under the Standard Visitor route is not the same as taking employment in the UK. The application should explain the permitted activity you plan to undertake, who you are meeting, how the visit relates to your work outside the UK and how the trip will be funded.

Current GOV.UK guidance permits activities such as attending meetings, conferences and seminars, negotiating and signing deals, attending trade fairs for promotional work and certain work-related training. Activities outside the visitor rules may require a different visa.

Your role and reason for the UK visit

For Delhi business travellers

Send the purpose of the visit, invitation or meeting details, proposed dates and your role in the Indian company or employer. We can then tell you which supporting documents are relevant.

Invitation letters are useful when they explain the actual visit

A strong invitation should support the reason for travel and the planned business activity. It should not conflict with the applicant’s employment, company records, funding arrangement or travel dates.

Common questions

UK business visitor questions

Can a Standard Visitor attend business meetings?

Yes. Meetings, conferences and seminars are among the business activities permitted under current visitor guidance.

Can I work for a UK company as a visitor?

Generally no. Work outside the permitted visitor activities can require a work visa.

Can I attend a trade fair?

Current guidance allows attendance at trade fairs to promote a business, but not selling goods or services at the event.

Do I need an invitation?

An invitation or event evidence can be relevant where it helps establish the business purpose and planned activity.

Permitted activity matters

A business invitation does not make every activity suitable for a visitor visa.

Current visitor rules permit activities such as meetings, conferences, seminars, interviews, negotiating and signing deals or contracts, promotional attendance at trade fairs, site visits and inspections, and gathering information for overseas employment. Some work-related training and other specialist activities can also be permitted where the rules are met.

The route does not provide unrestricted permission to take paid or unpaid employment for a UK company. If the real purpose is to fill a role, provide ordinary productive work in the UK or undertake an activity outside the visitor rules, a different immigration route may be required.

For this reason, a good business visitor file should describe the activity in plain terms. The invitation, employer or company letter, meeting schedule and applicant’s own role should all point to the same temporary purpose.
